Pioneers from Goslar to the World

Our story begins with Ananias Siemens, a 16th-century brewer and oil mill owner, and spans centuries to his descendants, who transformed the landscape of technology and engineering. The Siemens family has not only contributed significantly to the city's governance with multiple members serving as mayors but has also profoundly impacted the global technological sphere.

In 1847, Werner Siemens, an artillery officer turned inventor, alongside Johann Georg Halske, founded what would become a cornerstone of global technology: Siemens. From the first long-distance telegraph line in Europe to the pioneering advancements in telegraphy and electrical engineering, Siemens has been at the forefront of innovation. The launch of such monumental projects as the Indo-European telegraph line and the first electric street lighting powered by a Siemens AC Alternator marked milestones in technological progress.

The contributions of the Siemens family have been recognized by nobility titles across Europe, from Werner Siemens’ ennoblement as von Siemens by Frederick III, German Emperor, to his brother William’s knighthood by Queen Victoria. Their legacy is not merely in their inventions but also in their leadership and vision, propelling Siemens to become a leader in not just industrial but also medical technologies, as seen with the formation of Siemens-Reiniger-Werke AG.

A Legacy of Leadership and Vision

Today, the Siemens family continues to influence the company with a minority ownership that ensures stability and adherence to a legacy of innovation. The family’s commitment is reflected in their ongoing presence in the company's supervisory board, ensuring that Siemens remains at the forefront of technological advancement.

The Siemens Family Legacy

The Siemens family, a name synonymous with innovation and excellence in technology and telecommunications, traces its noble roots back to 1384 in the Free Imperial City of Goslar, Lower Saxony. The family began with Henning Symons, and through the generations, it has been intimately linked with the pioneering of global industry and remains the largest shareholder of Siemens AG today.
